Background: Rhythm & Beauty

Claire is a Textile Artist & Surface Pattern Designer, specialising in CAD and digital print to create exuberant interior spaces.

Claire was recently awarded an MA in Textile Design at Chelsea College of Art, where her theoretical research involved exploring naturally occurring rhythm in growth patterns. She is driven by what intrigues the eye aesthetically, and is inquisitive about whether visual harmony is a question of taste or an inherent reflex; challenging ideas of beauty.

Claire originally specialised as a weaver during her BA degree in Textile Design at the Scottish School of Textiles (Heriot Watt University). It was her fascination with the structural elements of woven fabric that has led her to her current research and discipline of Surface Pattern Design.

To explore ideas of order and chaos, fractured imagery, and non repeating pattern, Claire has developed an "exhaust - designing" methodology, utilising the kaleidoscope, to create infinite pattern possibilities. Claire is particularly interested in the accidental visual outcomes that occur through the kaleidoscope, including the hidden imagery and messages within it, creating optical effects.

Following her MA, Claire spent six months working as a Design Consultant in Northern Thailand, as part of an Arts Project for The British Council in Thailand. Alongside a fellow Chelsea College of Art graduate, Claire delivered Audio/Visual presentations on Trend & Colour forecasting, collaboratively designed woven & printed textiles for Thai Textile Manufacturers, and was invited to write an article on Ethical & Environmental Design for Harpers Bazaar Thailand. Claire's existing work now reflects her fascination with Thai pop and ethnic cultures.

Claire is currently setting up her own Bespoke Textiles & Surface Pattern Design Business for domestic and top - end commercial interior spaces, where conceptual design meets art installation. This will include a themed range of products and designs to choose from, and a commission - based service.

Claire's style is fun and funky, and she loves to use daring colour palettes to add a touch of flamboyance to any space. She is dedicated to producing sustainable designs that retain a personal touch, including ‘One Wall Wonder’ wallpapers, exuberant carpet & rug designs, whimsical canvas prints, and quirky interior accessories.
